If you were arrested, convicted, or even if you plead guilty as a first-time criminal offender and received probation, there is a chance you can still protect yourself from losing your job or source of income, housing or license with an expungement of your criminal record.
While expungements are absolutely possible, there is a bit of a process involved to obtain them. That’s why I’m here to help you, as your attorney, make this process as simple as possible.
One of the first steps towards getting your record expunged is obtaining your background check. I used to ask my clients to obtain their background check from the Louisiana State Police, but it didn’t work. So, I called the State Police and asked what the LSP would require from me (as your attorney) to get your background check (the Louisiana State Police calls this a “Right of Review”).
Step One
You need to get two (2) sets of your fingerprints on FBI Form FD-258. Here is a link to the form: https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/standard-fingerprint-form-fd-258-1.pdf/view.
The State Trooper who I spoke with suggested going to local law enforcement, the sheriff’s office where you live, or the nearest State Trooper branch so an officer can print your fingerprints on the FBI Form FD-258.
Step Two
Please complete these two documents required by Louisiana State Police to Obtain your Background Check in blue ink:

- Louisiana State Police Right of Review Disclosure Form
Step Three
When you’ve completed the two fingerprint cards and completed the two forms above, please send the originals to Crescent City Law. Our office address is

Step Four
After we receive your fingerprint cards and completed forms, we will complete an attorney authorization for your records and submit payment to the Louisiana State Police on your behalf. It takes between 4 to 6 weeks for the State Police to send the background check back to us.
